EditAbout
In many businesses, informatics has been asked to track the life cycle of each asset on the network. With current tools available on the market there is no way to easily determine the warranty expiry date on any PC / server.
Warranty Information Reporting (WIR) with Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 (ConfigMgr), Microsoft System Management Server 2003 (SMS) or SMS 2.0 was created to fill that void.
Through a series of processes, WIR determines the warranty information for each PC that it is executed on. This information is then returned to ConfigMgr / SMS so that ConfigMgr / SMS reports can be generated.
EditUsing WIR
WIR needs an internet connection and .Net 2.0 or better to determine the warranty information for each PC.
EditNetwork Issues
Occasionally there can be a network issue and no data is returned to WIR in a timely fashion. If this occurs WIR will try up to 5 times and each retry is logged before finally failing. It is recommended that WIR be re-run at a later date and time.
EditDemo version
Run WIR on any PC or server to have it display the current warranty information for that PC / server. WIR will not replace the warranty information that is normally returned to CONFIGMGR / SMS.
EditSupported Manufacturers
Within Warranty Information Reporting v2.05 currently the following list of manufacturers is supported.
WIR will also recognize virtual machines and label their data as following:
- Make "VMWare" or “Virtual Server 2005 or Virtual PC 2004 PC”
- Description "Not a Physical PC / Server"
- Hardware End Date "Not Applicable"
